12 Years

Today marks the 12 year anniversary of 24/7 worship and prayer at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, MO. Now, I want you to just stop and think about this for a minute. If my math is correct, there has been a prayer meeting going on nonstop for 4,383 days. That’s 105,192 hours. And 6,311,520 minutes. Nonstop. Never ending. The prayers of the saints have ascended to heaven and the Lord hears and answers them.

As I’m typing this, I’m reminded of Daniel 9. Daniel was reaching the end of a 21 day fast, “speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God”(vs. 20). Though he had not seen an immediate breakthrough, he continued to fervently pray and never give up. And at the end of his fast, the angel Gabriel appeared to him and said, “At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved…” (vs.23). At the beginning of his supplications the command went out. Basically what that means is that God heard Daniel’s prayers at the very beginning. And He immediately responded to Daniel’s cries. But, there was a war going on in the heavens that seemed to “hit the pause button” on the answer to his prayers. God sent the command out at the beginning of his supplications, but it was stopped on the way to earth by demonic forces. It was only as Daniel persisted in prayer, contending for breakthrough, that the battle in the second heavens was won and the answer to his prayers came down to the earth.

For 12 years, the children of God have not stopped praying, contending for revival, healings, breakthrough, etc. in Kansas City. And God hears their prayers and answers them. And even when it gets hard and you want to give up, there is a community of believers surrounding you there to encourage and provoke you to keep at it. And it never stops.

I feel so blessed to be a part of this community now. I am super excited for the special 12 year anniversary meeting that is about to begin, where the leaders of IHOP-KC will take time to remember the Lord’s faithfulness these past 12 years, share their vision for the future, and “sign-up again” to the call to never stop fasting and praying until the return of Jesus. I cannot express how grateful I am that the Lord has allowed me to become a part of this community, to link arms with like-minded brothers and sisters in Christ, and go hard after Him. Nonstop. 24/7. Until His return.

  1. I just stumbled across your blog, Rachael, while googling the symposium archives. God’s blessings on you during your first year at IHOPU. My heart feels the same as yours about 24/7. God is awesome.
