Well, my friends, it’s been far too long since my last appearance here. But I have some good news! I’ve decided that even in the business of life, I’m gonna start taking some time to slow down and get back to blogging more regularly. I really enjoy it, and it’s good for my heart. :) So without further ado…..
The past couple months the Lord has been stirring my heart on a particular subject in an unusually heightened way. Whenever He does that, I’ve learned it’s in my best interest to pay attention and talk to Him about it. I titled this post “All for One” because lately I have become even more keenly aware of the fact that everything in my life – my gifts and talents, my speech and actions, my friendships and relationships, my money and processions, etc. – is for Him, that He may receive glory, honor, and fame in every area of my life. He is the One who has given me everything that I have, so how could I not take what He has freely given to me and give it back to Him?
Remember when you were a kid and you had no money but really wanted to buy your mom or dad a gift for Christmas? If your parents were like mine, they willingly donated a few extra dollars to your cause (and probably even took you to the store) so that you could buy them a gift. And how exciting was it to take what they had given you and give it back to them in your own special way?! There’s something so sweet and pure about the way a child gives a gift. It could be the smallest, most seemingly insignificant thing, but they give it as if it’s the most expensive, meaningful gift in the world because to them, it is. It’s all they have. And what makes it even better is the sheer delight that a parent receives what their child presents that gift to them! Seeing the excitement of their child causes their hearts to bubble and overflow as they unwrap the trinket that was purchased for them with their own money. And oftentimes they even publicly display that gift for everyone who enters their house to see.
This is no different than our relationship with our heavenly Father. The One who is enthroned above the circle of the earth, who spoke the world into existence, who holds all authority and power, who has access to all the riches of the world, and who is the rightful King over all of creation, has given each one of His children something that they can use to give back to Him. Whether it’s many gifts and talents or only one, whether it’s something that will cause you to be promoted in the public eye or something that will keep you in the background your whole life, you have the opportunity to use it for His glory. He has given you everything you have so that you can give it back to Him. We were created to bear good fruit, the fruit of righteousness, to bring glory to His name in everything that we do. Even Jesus lived for the glory of His Father and commanded His disciples to do the same! How crazy is it that the Son of God wouldn’t take the glory He rightfully deserved being God Himself, but would give it all to His Father?!
My heart’s desire is that wherever I am in life, in whatever I’m doing with whatever I have, I will be a pleasing fragrance that will bring honor to God’s name. I want the world to look at me and not see me. I want them to look at me and see Jesus. I don’t want fame, glory, and a name among men – I want everything in my life to point to One Man. All of me for the glory of the only One who is worthy.
